My older Sony DVD player allowed me to resume play on a disc, even if I removed it from the player and inserted it at a point in the future. I don't subscribe to every conceivable streaming service, so cannot rate Hulu, as an example. Quality of playback has been flawless DVDs look great, and BD even more so (played onto my 55" Samsung screen purchased under a year ago).Īlthough my screen has apps ("smart TV"), I tested apps such as Amazon Prime Video and Netflix on the Sony, and found no buffering or any playback issues. Plus, it actually has a small, green LED on the front to indicate power on (a power LED was sadly lacking on Samsung). Samsung support was of little use I had the current firmware, and went ahead and did a hard reset, but by then pulled the trigger on the Sony unit. So, it's a spare if ever needed at all.Īs for the Sony, small, compact, a nice rectangular shape (as opposed to the odd, curved shape of Samsung). Never repeatable on the same disc, truly an intermittent issue. The Samsung had been working, but, as I posted elsewhere, tended to act as if the laser shut off momentarily within the first 7-10 minutes of a DVD (never happened on a BD). I just purchased this unit to allow me to set aside a Samsung J5700.
